THE OUTSIDE WORLD IS OUR PRIMARY SOURCE

Within Sarah Thornton's 33 Artists in 3 Acts we meet Gabriel Orozco, seen here on the left. His work is what inspired me most when thinking about this project.
What struck me about his story was the amount of traveling that he did, which ultimately ended up impacting his career in art. Without all the traveling he did away from his home country and culture, he would not have been able to "move outside of himself."
His travels to Madrid, Berlin, London, Bonn, and San Jose allowed him to "use the outside world as his primary source." He was passionate about squashing the tendency for others to judge people different from them as unusual
This struck me to get outside and explore somewhere I had never been. As you can see my piece The Unknown speaks to me exploring a place I had never been before. It pushed me outside of my comfort zone of familiarity, and give me the opportunity to be comfortable with something that was atypical to me. While it's on a much smaller scale to Orozco's work, it is my appreciation of his contribution to the art world without borders.
